Built on Craft, Care, and Accountability

For more than 30 years, our approach has been guided by one simple principle: do it right, every time. We understand how critical each step of the process is, and we’re committed to getting it right the whole way. We invest in quality from the outset because that’s what endures. We bring a mindset rooted in high standards, accountability, and integrity because standing behind our work is part of doing it right. It’s this philosophy that defines us as housewrights who take responsibility for every detail and every outcome.

Our Story: From Whaling Boats to Waterfront Homes

SR Fine Home Builders began with a carpenter who never set out to be a general contractor. In the 1980s, founder Jeremy Sherer was buying old buildings, taking them apart, and putting them back together — first on Nantucket, where many historic homes were framed with timbers from decommissioned whaling ships, and later throughout Rhode Island. His experience working in a respected millwork and finish carpentry shop helped him hone his craft.

A mid–19th-century barn restoration in Providence proved a turning point— the award-winning project drew the attention of architects who would become key collaborators. In 1994, Jeremy incorporated under the name Suburban Renewal, taking inspiration from his redevelopment work in Jamestown. A subsequent commission to restore Narragansett’s historic Reading Room solidified the company’s reputation and forged lasting ties with its influential tenant Lila Delman | COMPASS Real Estate.

As the firm’s reputation grew, so did the team. Jeremy met Nick Vanasse while collaborating with an architectural partner, and Nick soon joined as Project Manager. His leadership and detail-first approach supported continued growth, enabling the firm to expand beyond historic restorations and renovations into new construction.

Suburban Renewal reintroduced itself as SR Fine Home Builders in 2021 to better reflect the firm’s offerings. Today, Nick serves as Chief Operating Officer, carrying forward the company’s legacy of craftsmanship, collaboration, and enduring quality. The name change reflects a broader scope, but our focus remains— a company rooted in respect for craft, detail, and design integrity, building homes that endure.
